Counseling

Guidance and counseling is an integral part of the total educational program at McCulloch Elementary. It is developmental and facilitative in nature, as it assists students in developing competencies for life experiences and transitions. It includes student centered sequential activities.

The guidance program at McCulloch is a comprehensive model which incorporates the following four components:

Curriculum which consists of lessons that facilitate academic and social development. These lessons are presented systematically through classroom and group activities in kindergarten through grade five. The curriculum is organized around the following categories:

  • Promoting Knowledge of Self and Others

  • Career Planning and Exploration

  • Educational and Vocational Development

Individual Planning consists of activities that help all students plan, monitor and manage their own learning as well as their personal and career development. Individual planning is implemented through such strategies as advisement, appraisal, referral for specific educational programs, and team meetings.

Responsive Services consists of activities to meet immediate needs and concerns of students whether these needs or concerns require counseling, consultation, referral or information.

System Support consists of management activities that establish, maintain, and enhance the total guidance program. This component is implemented and carried out through activities in the following areas:

  • Professional Development

  • Staff and Community Relations

  • Consultations with Teachers and Parents

  • Community Outreach

Republic School Districts' comprehensive guidance program is implemented by certified school counselors with the support of teachers, administrators and parents.
