Sources of Strength
What is it?
Sources of Strength is a national, youth mental health promotion and suicide prevention program designed to harness the power of peer social networks to create healthy norms and culture, ultimately preventing suicide, violence, bullying and substance abuse. The mission of Sources of Strength is to prevent adverse outcomes by increasing wellbeing, help-seeking, resiliency, healthy coping and belonging by leaning into their strengths and the strengths of those around them. This is an evidenced based program with partnerships including leading mental health organizations.
How does it work?
Sources of Strength committees have been implemented at Republic Middle School and Republic High School.
The students chosen to participate represent a wide variety of social cliques and groups.
These groups of students and adults have gone through training to implement ongoing public health messaging campaigns to increase wellness and decrease risk in their schools.
