The Republic School District is excited to share updates related to the district’s latest project – a new school building for all 5th and 6th grade students.

As a reminder, Republic voters approved a no tax levy increase bond issue for the building in April of this year, and district leaders have been working with architects and developers to take next steps. The “Republic Intermediate School” will be located on land the district purchased in December 2022 near James River Freeway and U.S. Highway 60.

At the September Board of Education meeting, Mr. Jason Perkins, Executive Director of Operations, presented updates related to the progress of the project, including the following:

  • District leaders and employees have been working with architects and construction teams on plans for the site and building, including the updated renderings below.

  • Site work and development of the property will be starting soon.

  • Construction on the actual building is expected to begin in early 2024.

  • We are still set to open the building for the 2025-2026 school year.

As we work to finalize plans for the new school, we want to hear from YOU. We’re asking our families, employees and 6th-12th grade students to fill out this survey to give us feedback, which we will use to develop design features for our students and staff to enjoy.

Current 3rd and 4th grade students will be the first students to attend the new Republic Intermediate School, and we are collecting their feedback through classroom activities. Current 5th grade students will also be given an opportunity to fill out a short survey during class time.

The survey will close on Friday, September 29. Be sure to follow along at republicschools.org/constructionupdates for more progress updates!
