As we look toward the end of the 2023-2024 school year and plan ahead for the 2024-2025 school year, the Republic School District would like to share a few important reminders and updates regarding important dates.
Current School Year (2023-2024)
For the rest of this school year, staff and families should take note of the following dates:
Friday, April 19: No School for Students, School Buildings Also Closed
Thursday, May 9: Republic High School Graduation, 6:00 p.m. at Great Southern Bank Arena in Springfield
Wednesday, May 22: Last Day of School - Half Day for Students (More details below), Half Teacher Work Day
Wednesday, May 29: First Day of Summer School
Friday, June 21: Last Day of Summer School
As noted in the above list, the last day of school, May 22, will be a half day for students. STRIPES 360 will be available for students currently enrolled in STRIPES programming. Please contact your school office if your student's after-school plans will be different than usual. We will use the following dismissal schedule on Wednesday, May 22:
RHS: 12:00 p.m.
RMS: 12:10 p.m.
Lyon, Sweeny, Price, Schofield, McCulloch: 1:00 p.m.
EC Full-Day Classes: 1:00 p.m. (Morning classes will dismiss as usual, and there will be no afternoon classes.)
Next School Year (2024-2025)
We’d also like to draw attention to some adjustments made to the 2024-2025 school year calendar, including the first day of school, August 20. This will be a Tuesday instead of a Monday. This decision came after receiving feedback from employees that they could use more time to prepare for the start of the school year, and that some of our younger students struggle to get through a full week right at the beginning of the year.
When it comes to teacher prep time, Republic staff will receive more next year with two dedicated teacher work days in the weeks leading up to the first day of school. They’ll also have an additional work day in October to prepare for parent/teacher conferences, which means we will have no school for students on Monday, October 14.
We’ll also have an additional day of Fall Break with the dates being Friday, November 1-Tuesday, November 5. Students will return on Wednesday, November 6. In November, there will be a Presidential Election on November 5, and we’ve learned that Republic Middle School will be a polling place for our region. An extended fall break gives our students and staff more time to rest and recharge for the end of the first semester, while also giving us an opportunity to serve our community with the use of our facilities. Details for staff will be shared at a later date.
Several things will stay the same for next school year, including the following:
The district will be closed on holidays such as Labor Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Good Friday and Memorial Day.
We will have two School Improvement Days throughout the year (Friday, October 4 and Friday, February 14). There will be no school for students on these days to give our staff time to collaborate and participate in professional development.
We will have Thanksgiving Break November 27-29.
We will have a full two weeks off for Winter Break (December 23-January 6). January 6 will be a teacher work day and students will return for the second semester on January 7.
The last day of school, Thursday, May 22, will be a half day.
The official 2024-2025 calendar is available here. You can follow along with the Events section on our website and app to add these dates to your digital calendar.
